Gavi di Gavi DOCG – Black Label (Cortese) 6 x 75cl

This is Gavi di Gavi, in all its identity and personality. Its Cortese grapes are grown in the vineyards that surround the house in Rovereto, on the hill that represents the finest expression of the Gavi crus: red soil with lots of stones, old vines and all-round exposure to the sun.

 

“Black label was my first bottle, my first label, my first wine, made just the way I like it: lots of terroir, lots of hard work in the countryside, lots of minerality and a sea of tanginess.”

 

Its straw-yellow colour is accompanied by the scent of cut grass, white flowers, medlar and yellow citrus fruits. Its creamy palate is distinguished by the thick texture of tropical fruit, a citrusy personality and the fragrance of aromatic herbs.

The Il Poggio estate has been owned by the family since 1919 and is located in the green and luxuriant Rovereto Hills, in the heart of Gavi DOCG.

 

The vineyards are all managed by hand and the knowledge of the vines has been passed from father to daughter. Franca, had his first vintage at these vineyards in 1972, and over the last 5 years has handed over the key winemaking roles to his daughter, Francesca. The vines now have an average age of 25 years and are in their prime. The yield is kept very low keeping the delicate flavours of the Cortese grapes concentrated.

 

The winemaking is simple, clean and unobtrusive, creating a wine reflective of its terroir and delicate handling.
